  • Upgrade hosting: shared hosting often bottlenecks LCP; consider a VPS or dedicated server

How to improve INP

INP measures how quickly your page responds to user interactions like clicks and taps. Main culprits include heavy JavaScript execution and long tasks on the main thread.

  • Break up long tasks: use requestIdleCallback or setTimeout to yield the main thread
  • Code-split JavaScript: only load what's needed for the current page
  • Remove unused JavaScript and CSS: tools like coverage reports in DevTools help identify bloat
  • Optimize third-party scripts: tag managers, analytics, and chat widgets can all block interactivity

How to improve CLS

CLS happens when visible elements shift position after the page has already loaded. The most common causes are images without dimensions, ads, and dynamically injected content.

  • Reserve space for ads and embeds using CSS aspect-ratio boxes
  • Avoid inserting content above existing content after the page loads
  • Use font-display: optional or swap to prevent layout shifts from custom fonts
