Why you need a technical co-founder
If you're not a developer, you need someone to build the product. A committed technical co-founder is better than any external agency or freelance developer in the long run.
Where to look
The best places are active communities: Product Hunt, Indie Hackers, GitHub (contribute to projects), tech meetups, and networks like Y Combinator's Co-founder Matching platform.
What to offer
"The idea" is not enough. Offer fair equity (30-50% for the technical co-founder), clear vision, initial traction or potential clients. Show that you bring value too.
How to evaluate
Work on a small project together before committing. Evaluate communication, execution speed, and value alignment. Technical skill can improve; attitude cannot.
Minimum legal agreement
Draft a 4-year vesting with a 1-year cliff. Define clear roles and an exit mechanism. Use platforms like Clerky or Stripe Atlas for the documents.
At Vynta we've connected entrepreneurs with developers to launch successful products. If you're looking for your technical co-founder, we can guide you.
